Bokone Bophirima housing inspectors capacitated
The Bokone Bophirima Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in partnership with National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) embarked on an intensive programme of capacitating housing inspectors within the Local Government sphere to take a zero tolerance against shoddy work in housing project. The department recently held workshops in Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala Platinum District Municipalities respectively.
NHBRC’s Provincial Manager, Sifiso Ntsizwane outlined the importance of the workshops ‘’capacitating housing inspectors and other relevant stakeholders will ensure delivery of quality houses to all Bokone Bophirima communities, It is important that we as NHBRC, municipalities and government work coherently to make this a reality,” said Ntsizwane.
The workshops were conducted to help clarify roles and responsibilities of the department, NHBRC and Municipalities in relations to inspections done on housing infrastructure projects within the Bokone Bophirima province and how they can be improved. Inspectors were also given the chance to raise their concerns and challenges experienced in various sites.
Alfonso Manuel Acting chief director of Housing Development from the North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements, encouraged inspectors to ensure quality in their work. “The face of quality of these houses rests in your hands, so it is imperative that all inspectors work together to ensure we don’t compromise provision of quality house” he said
Issues such as exploring capacity building and training opportunities sponsored by NHBRC were also discussed during the workshops to help provide training for those who are interested in learning and acquiring further skills in the construction industry.
