The Department of Human Settlements in the North West together with the North West Housing Corporation recently issued out 145 title deeds to residents in Atamelang township in Tswaing local municipality.
One of the beneficiaries, 79-year-old Dinah Malwane of Atamelang could not contain her excitement and burst into tears of joy when MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mothibedi Kegakilwe accompanied by Mayor of Tswaing, Dimakatso Malwane delivered her long-awaited title deed.
“I’m out of words, my heart is full of joy knowing that I have secured a home for my children. I thank the Department of Human Settlements and North West Housing Corporation for keeping its promises”, remarked the overjoyed Dina Modisane.
MEC Kegakilwe said, “I’m pleased with the pace at which we are moving. We are giving effect to the commitment we made as government that there shall be houses, security and comfort. This event clearly shows that we are not paying lip service in our aim to improve the lives of our people. Our strategy is transparent, and we are effectively executing it. It is through processes such as these that the dignity of our people is restored.
“As the North West government, we remain committed to accelerating human settlement delivery, while promoting social inclusion through the development of integrated, resilient and sustainable human settlements in an open opportunity society”, added MEC Kegakilwe.
NWHC Board Deputy Chairperson Okgabile Dibetso-Bodibe stated that the handover of these title deeds is executed to decrease the existing title deeds backlog in North West and confirm home ownership to residents. “We are doing this as part of the broader effort to put our people at the centre of service delivery’’ she said.
