North West Human Settlements – a leading province in housing delivery across the country

The North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison Nono Maloyi has urged developers contracted by the department to build houses to keep up the good work during the Departmental Provincial Developers Forum held in Mahikeng recently.

Maloyi told developers that his department has taken the lead as compared to other Department in the country in terms of spending the allocated conditional grant intended to build low cost houses. “We are number one province in the country leading number two with 10% and that says we are indeed spending well and we are on target.”

“It is important for you (contractors) to stick to your delivery schedule and don’t just build shoddy houses targeting delivery schedule, we need quality house,” said Maloyi.

According to MEC Maloyi, the North West received this palatable information during the meeting where Human Settlements MEC’s meet with the Minister. The MEC further encouraged contractors to employ local people wherever they are contracted to build houses.

“Job creation is one of government priorities so we are expected to create jobs for the local unemployed people whenever we build houses for our rightful beneficiaries,” he said.

The provincial developers’ forum is a session for the MEC to meet with developers contracted by the department in a bid to find solutions to housing challenges within the province in a bit to accelerate housing delivery and creating healthy relations with developers.
