Greater Taung Municipality welcomes Special Olympics medallists
The Greater Taung Municipality has yet again proved itself as a home of champs by welcoming Pelonomi Molautsi (Gold in women’s table tennis singles and bronze in table tennis doubles) and Dineo Monchonyane (Gold, 1500 metres and Bronze 3000 metres). The municipality held an honorary breakfast at Taung Sun to welcome them home.
Executive Mayor of the municipality, Cllr Kaone Lobelo was over the moon and said, “It is an honour to welcome these learners back and we are proud to be home to four medallists, the Kelehe brothers who won the Comrades Marathon and now these two learners”.
He further added that it is their responsibility as a municipality to nurture local talent.
The Department of Education and Sport Development has been responsible for ensuring that these learners do not encounter any hiccups on their road to the Olympics. The mayor said they appreciate its continued support.
After the breakfast, the learners were put on a truck and joined a motorcade which passed through several parts of Taung. Kgosi Mankuroane also welcomed the learners.
The Department of Education and Sport Development appreciates that other stakeholders are coming on board to support them and appeals to the community to encourage their children to take part in sport.
