North West Health MEC, Dr. Magome Masike last night delivered a healthy baby girl at Jouberton Community Health Centre in Klerksdorp. MEC Masike, a medical doctor by profession, was doing his routine visits at the health centre when Idah Chovu experienced labour pains.
“When I was in pain at the health centre, the MEC came over to me and asked to deliver my baby. I asked, are you serious? To my shock, he asked nurses to give him gloves. It is nice to see people at the top coming down to us ordinary people,” she said.
Ms Chovu named the baby girl Zinhle. Both mother and baby are now home in Jouberton Extension 22. Last year MEC Masike treated three patients within 20 minutes at Silwerkraans Clinic in Tlokweng community during a surprise visit to the clinic.
