The Premier’s Coordinating Council which met today (04 November 2015) Tshidilamolomo village in Ratlou Local Municipality received a comprehensive report on the water and sanitation situation in the province.
Minister of Water and Sanitation has directed Sedibeng to work with Ngaka Modiri Molema District municipality in finding solutions to the water challenges. Following the directives which were issued to Sedibeng Water as an implementing agent; Sedibeng Water, NMMDM, and its local municipalities met to develop a business plan which was approved in August 2015.
The directive is aimed at eradicating tankering within the district and its local municipalities. A total number of 104 villages were identified where the programme should be implemented.
The programme is categorised as a short and long term view. The short term being fixing of the leaks and installing temporary jojo tanks; and the long term view being investing on water infrastructure, investigating water sources yields, building reservoirs and necessary pipelines.
Political Steering Committee (PSC) (for both the Madibeng and Ngaka Modiri Molema Municipalities) has been established and it is to be chaired by the Minister of Water and Sanitation and include representation by the Premier of North West, the MEC for Local Government and the Executive Mayors of Madibeng, Ngaka Modiri Molema
This committee will meet on a quarterly basis.
A committee of Heads of Department has also been established and it will be co-chaired by the Directors General of the Departments of Water and Sanitation and the Province of North West. The Committee will meet on a quarterly basis and will provide general oversight over the interventions in Madibeng and Ngaka Modiri Molema Municipalities and report to the Minister for Water and Sanitation and the Premier of North West Province.
Representation to the Committee will be The Administrators of Madibeng and Ngaka Modiri Molema, the Departmental representatives designated in the Implementing Protocol, The Chief Executives of Magalies and Sedibeng Water and the Provincial Head for the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Water Forum (WF:The Forum will be established to represent the needs of the community and to liaise with National, Provincial and Local Government. They also assist with dissemination of information to the community and the identification of workers to be contracted to execute repair work.
Premier Mahumapelo announced that the chairpersons of clusters, representation from the Provincial Government and state owned entities responsible for water will meet with Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Munipality with a view to intervening on the water challenges in the District.
