In a concerted effort to bridge the communication gap between government and the people of Bokone Bophirima province, the Office of the Premier has established a Provincial Call Centre using a toll-free number which started operating late last week.

The establishment of the Call Centre was announced yesterday by Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo while tabling the Office of the Premier Budget Speech for the financial year 2015/16 at the North West Provincial Legislature.

“The call centre which is currently operating from the Public Service Training Centre in Mahikeng has limited capacity of temporary staff compliment of interns who are working with an internally developed IT solution,” announced Premier Mahumapelo.

Reaffirming the significance of the Call Centre in handling the public’s queries, comments and compliments regarding the provision of services in the province, Premier Mahumapelo told the Provincial Legislature that since its activation, the centre has received many calls and smses on daily basis, from all four Districts of the province.

“A summary of top five service delivery issues raised so far by the community include water, electricity, health, unemployment and roads,” Premier Mahumapelo told the Legislature.

Currently the call centre operates from 08h00 until 16h30, Monday to Friday, except on public holidays, and the long term plan is to increase its operating hours. “We have budgeted R10 million for the full implementation of the Provincial Call Centre to be based in Mahikeng,” said Mahumapelo adding that part of the plan is to relocate the centre to Lowe Complex from September 2015 with a fully-fledged IT Solution that will be linked with existing Municipalities’ Call Centres, this with a view to integrate the Provincial complaints management capacity to improve service delivery.

The Presidential Hotline is also housed and managed from this Call Centre, with a call resolution rate of 82%.

Premier Mahumapelo urges members of the public to use the toll-free number and engage government on issues of common interest. “The vision to rebrand, reposition and renew our Province will to a greater extent be realised if we use available platforms to constructively engage one another on service delivery improvement issues”.
