North West Exco adopts new name for official publication

The official publication of the North West Provincial Government is to hit the streets after two years of being out of circulation. The first copies of the publication to be re-launched under a new name “Sedi La Setshabafrom North West Mirror are to be distributed during Premier Mme Thandi Modise’s State of the Province Address to mark the opening of the North West Provincial Legislature on Friday 17 February 2012.

In announcing the name adopted during the 12 hour long Special Executive Council (Exco) meeting held at Amazingwe Lodge near Hartbeespoort dam on Tuesday afternoon, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise said that the publication should in line with the democratic values of a new society be used as an instrument of participatory democracy, social transformation and community empowerment and not as a propaganda tool.

“Rural communities and other marginalised sections of our society should feel that the publication and other community media closes the gap by providing vital information that they need for purposes of their own development” stressed the Premier.

The publication’s province-wide distribution strategy has a huge potential to attract advertising which Exco has approved that it should cater for in accordance with Treasury Regulations, Public Finance Management Act and other relevant policies and legislative prescripts so that it becomes financially self-sustaining as a credible platform of unmediated communication with communities.

The publication will make an effort to put across information and messages using all the three official languages of the province, i.e. Afrikaans, Setswana and English.
