The North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison is to hold a Provincial Justice Crime Prevention and Security (PJCPS) community engagement session in an effort to increase community involvement in crime prevention actions. The working session is to be held as from 9h00 am at Ben Marais Hall in Rustenburg on Thursday, 9 February 2012.
The session aimed at empowering communities around issues of Charter for victims of crime, bail, child justice courts, sexual offences intervention, school safety and issues of liquor licences is part of the February Safety Month programme and is targeting over about 1 000 community representatives from around the Bojanala Platinum District.
Provincial MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono who is to deliver the keynote address at the PJCPS Community engagement session says that the interactive engagement is aimed at creating awareness among stakeholders regarding the implementation of the programmes of the Criminal Justice System role players and indentifying service delivery challenges, gaps and issues of concern that need to be addressed.
Mohono says that the need and relevance of the engagements led by her department in partnership with the South African Police Service and the Provincial Community Policing Board were confirmed by numerous complaints from communities regarding services rendered by police.
Community Policing Forums from Rustenburg, Mmakau and Brits clusters, inclusive of Provincial, Cluster and local police management, representatives of traditional councils, local government structures, the business sector, school governing bodies, non-government organisations, youth and women organisations are expected to attend the session.
