North West Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs appoints local government experts and a financial guru to turn around municipalities

The North West of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has enlisted the services of experienced local government experts and financial experts run the affairs of the municipalities in terms of their administration and financial obligation for a period of not less than six months. The deployment of these experts follows the recent Section 139(1) (b) (of the Constitution) intervention announced by Acting MEC Paul Sebegoe last week at Ditsobotla, Matlosna and Maquassi hills Local Municipalities.

Iqbal Motala has been deployed to Maquassi hills, Matshidiso Dikoko at Ditsobotla and Paul Serote at Matlosana local municipalities, respectively. Motala who is a lawyer by profession is no new comer to local government. He is the former Head of Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Department of Public Safety and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Matshediso Dikoko who is currently the Chairperson of Midvaal Water Company is the former Executive Mayor of the then Southern District Municipality now Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality. Paul Serote is a registered Chartered Accountant and Auditor who brings with him a wealth of experience in finance in both public and private sector.

Meanwhile, MEC Sebegoe has hailed the appointment of the administrators as a “step in the right direction”. The selection process was very intensive and not very easy because we wanted to have people who will turn a completed corner and lead these municipalities to greater heights. I am convinced that they will perform the tasks at hand to the best of their abilities and leave behind viable institutions when their term comes to end in no less than six months,” he said.
