Out of the 1 956 units, the province will complete the first 54 units at Boikhutso location in Lichtenburg to mark the 54th anniversary of the Women's Month.
The National Women Build is a Letsema housing construction project which was originally launched in 2005 in Gauteng.
Since then, the project has been hosted by different provinces where houses have been built for vulnerable and marginalised women to commemorate one of the largest demonstrations in this country's history, where thousands of women marched to the Union Buildings in 1956 to protest against the extension of passes to women.
This year's National Women Build would be hosted by the North West province.
A number of sector stakeholders have pledged towards the National Women Build 2010 during the recent national breakfast session that was held in Pretoria recently.
National Women Build seeks to promote the spirit of voluntarism as well as public private partnership.
In this regard, a number of financial institutions, construction related companies and sector departments have pledged to play a significant role in ensuring this year's National Women Build success.
The MEC for Human Settlements in the North West, Desbo Mohono, has called on all private sector institutions that have not already done so, to join forces with her department to ensure the success of this noble initiative.
"I challenge private sector companies to join government as we seek to respond practically and directly to the housing needs of all our people, especially the poor and vulnerable."
Mohono said that National Women Build project helps to accelerate the pace and quality of housing delivery through partnership with stakeholders and by promoting the spirit of Letsema in the country.
"The project further promotes women's access to economic opportunities within the housing industry and strengthens the Public Private Partnership programme," she said.
