The trial-date for the case of a Rustenburg based attorney, who was allegedly caught doing 198 km/h on a 120km/h speeding zone, on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway, has been set for Friday, 4 November 2011.
Thabo Ratseane appeared in the Zeerust magistrate court last Friday and remains out on warning pending finalisation of his trial.
Ratseane allegedly committed the offence near Rietvalley between Groot Marico and Zeerust two weeks ago, whilst driving his BMW to Mahikeng. The 30-year-old attorney was escorted by traffic officers from the North West Road traffic Management unit to Groot Marico Police station where he was charged.
The provincial unit has in the past three weeks of its special operations focusing on public transport vehicles, issued discontinued 162 un-roadworthy vehicles and issued 2 392 notices to motorists for various violations and defects on their vehicles.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono, has vowed that zero tolerance operations will be intensified with commencement of 24/7 traffic law rotation shifts as from 1 October 2011.
Mohono observes that 20 motorists were arrested for driving public transport vehicles without public driving permits, six for drunken driving; when close to 20 000 vehicles, 1 1465 of which were public transport vehicles and 8 001-freight transport vehicles were stopped and screened during special public transport operations across the province.
Meanwhile, two other high-profile motorists, former North West Operating Licensing Board member Neo Schalk and Platinum Stars striker, Thuso Phala who had allegedly clocked 189 km/h and 195km/h respectively are to stand trial in the Brits magistrates Court on Thursday and Friday this week.
