North West changes bursary allocation criterion to address scarce skills

The North West Office of the Premier Bursary Scheme will henceforth prioritise its focus on addressing the province’s scarce skills in accounting, finance, medicine and town planning, North West Premier Thandi Modise pronounced in her State of the Province Address delivered in Mahikeng on Friday.

According to Premier Modise the Office of the Premier Bursary Scheme which allocates bursaries to needy but deserving students as part of its talent management enhancement programme has 208 bursary holders with 54 learners completing this year. Thirty-seven new intakes have been allocated bursaries this year to study at institutions of higher learning.

The Premier said that the province is proud to have produced 953 artisans in the last three and half years through the national skills fund programme and hopes to produce even more with the assistance of mining companies in the province.
