Ten motorists were arrested by members of the North West Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit in Bojanala Platinum District for drunken driving in a road traffic law enforcement blitz dubbed Operation Thibela over the weekend. The detained motorists are to appear in the Brits Magistrates court in the North West Province on Monday.
The motorists were arrested along the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway, around the Brits and Mooinooi area. One of them was arrested at the scene of an accident after his Mercedes Benz collided with a Nissan Sentra near the N4 Brits off-ramp.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono says that the blitz is a precursor of the zero tolerance road traffic law enforcement that motorists can expect across all roads in the province ahead of the festive season.
Provincial Road Traffic Management authorities have in the first month of their special operations focusing on public transport vehicles discontinued 186 unroadworthy vehicles and issued 2916 notices to motorists for various violations and defects on their vehicles.
