A Rustenburg-based male attorney was found guilty of speeding and fined R2 500 in the Groot Marico Magistrates Court in the North West Province on Tuesday.
Thabo Ratseane who had been out on free bail was arrested earlier in the morning after a warrant of arrest was issued after he failed to appear in court last week Monday. Ratseane was arrested for clocking 198km/h on a 120km/h speeding zone near Rietvalley between Groot Marico and Zeerust in September last year.
Thirty year old Ratseane was allegedly driving a BMW to Mahikeng to represent a client in court when he was pulled over by traffic officers from the North West Road traffic Management unit.
In welcoming the strong message supporting zero tolerance against lawlessness on public roads sent by the court, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono had expressed a concern that people who are supposed to be role models behave in such a reckless way.
