North West appoints seven housing technical expects

In addressing the skills gap and the serious shortage of housing technical expects in the province, the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison has appointed seven young technical expects to ensure quality and compliance by contractors appointed to construct houses for the rightful beneficiaries.

Welcoming the appointees the Chief Director in the Department Jonny Motlogelwa, who spoke on behalf of MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi expressed his confidence and encouraged them to add value in the department and adopt good practices.

“We have full confidence and hope that you will take our department to greater heights by ensuring quality on houses delivered by the Department,” said Motlogelwa.

Motlogelwa said the expects should plough back to their communities by ensuring that appointed developers and contractors do not compromise quality and  comply to all rules and standards.

Duduzile Khoza, from the National Department of Human Settlements’ Scholarship Programme expressed gratitude to the provincial department for cracking the implementation of placing scholarship graduates.

The newly appointed technical expects completed their studies within the broader housing related fields from different tertiary institutions. These were learners who were awarded scholarships by the National Housing Scholarship programme aimed at addressing skills development and acquisition through sponsoring well performing students from previously disadvantaged groups in designated and prioritised fields of housing and construction related studies.

The main objective of the programme is to produce a cadre of highly competent housing practitioners and professionals in the field of Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Civil Engineering.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, a 22-year-old Ms. Thato Imasiku thanked the department for availing a life time opportunity for them. Imasuku who intends to penetrate the formerly male dominated industry said the construction industry is not as bad as it was portrayed in the past.
