North West agricultural training institutions to be revamped

The two agricultural colleges in the North West Province based in Taung and Potchefstroom will during the 2012/13 financial year be refurbished. This was confirmed  by North West Premier, Mme Thandi Modise, during her State of the Province Address delivered on Friday in Mahikeng.

The confirmation comes in the wake of recent media reports which challenged and criticised the structural conditions at the Potchefstroom College of Agriculture. The Premier’s pronouncement is subsequent to the appointment of a contractor who is already on site working on all identified structural defects at the college.

“There is no need for people to sweat and misrepresent us on this matter,” rebuked Premier Modise.

Equally, Premier Modise announced the launching of Kgora Resource Training centre at Ramatlabama, which seeks to equip subsistence and aspirant farmers with practical experience on farming methods.

Modise challenged her administration to look at whether average facilities of agricultural learning and training had to be created or the contention and intention be that of an agricultural hub, with the view to be the best in the country.
