No truth in allegations that Albany bread has been poisoned

The Department of Health notes with concern reports in the social media that it (health department) has confirmed poisoning of Albany bread.

The department would like to reassure members of the public that such reports or allegations are not true. We regard these allegations as a hoax. As custodian of food safety legislation the department will always ensure that the safety of consumers of food stuff including bread is not compromised. The department has been interacting with senior managers at Tiger Brands (owners of Albany bread) regarding these allegations and the company has reassured us of the safety of their Albany brand.

On our part as the department, we will always investigate any claims regarding poor food safety based on the legislative powers that we have. At this stage we see no need to do so as we deem these claims to be a hoax.
