A new partnership model needs to be developed for retention of 30 000 jobs and real beneficiation in the ferrochrome industry, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise and Xstrata Ferrochrome Producers agreed in a meeting held in Mahikeng earlier this week.
Premier Modise urged ferrochrome producers to take keener interest in the development of their employees and in improving relationships with communities in which they are mining.
“Aligning Social Labour Plans and Corporate Social Investments of mining houses to the Provincial New Growth Plan will go a long way in meeting the province’s development priorities and addressing the jobs and economic challenges,” says Modise.
