New Natalspruit Hospital welcomes its first baby

This morning, the newly opened Natalspruit Hospital welcomed its first born baby boy weighing 3, 950kg. The bouncy baby was delivered at 8h50am at the new facility. The mother, Nonzwakazi Msindo of Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni was relocated with other patients on Monday from the old hospital to the new facility in Vosloorus.

Holding her bundle of joy Msindo said: “When MEC Mahlangu says this is a state-of-the art hospital she is not exaggerating. This is a beautiful facility and I am honoured that my son, Mohamed, is the first baby to be born here.

“This is a historic moment for both of us. The relocation on Monday was smooth with no hassles. I would like to thank all the staff members that assisted me in the delivery of my baby.”

Acting hospital CEO Dr Patricia Africa commended maternity ward staff that delivered the baby.

“While we are still settling in our staff is seeing patients, this birth bears testimony to that. I take my hat off to the maternity ward personnel for the swift delivery of this baby. This is a beginning of a new era in terms of service delivery for Kathorus community,” said Dr Africa.

“As you would know moving house is quite a complex process, so we plead with community to bear with us until we have settled down, but we will not turn any patients away,” she added.

The newly built 821 bedded regional Hospital will be officially opened on Thursday, August 28, 2014. Amongst others, the facility will offer services such as: Family Medicine; 24 Hour Casualty; Speech and Language Therapy; Ophthalmology; Radiography and Eye Nose and Throat Clinic.
