The Office of the Premier in the North West Province is to establish a higher level Forensic and Fraud Investigations Unit to give teeth to the provincial government efforts to eliminate corruption not only in the public service but in society in general.
In announcing the establishment of the unit in his State of the Province Address delivered on Friday, Premier Supra Mahumapelo called on all Members of Executive Council to lead by example by demonstrating positive ethical conduct and rejecting corruption.
Mahumapelo committed that the Executive Council will publish and make available on quarterly basis all public sections of declarations made by MEC's. He said that will also apply to Senior Managers of government who are required by legislation to declare their financial interests.
“We have asked that all forensic investigation reports commissioned by the Provincial Government in the past to be made available to the Office of the Premier for processing and disclosure through the Legislature subject to necessary legal processes, in relation to any party/person implicated or investigated by government,” the Premier said.
Premier Mahumapelo also reiterated the announcement made by President Jacob Zuma in his State of the Nation Address that no public servant should be doing business with government. He further appealed to members of the community to assist in the fight against fraud and corruption by working hand in glove with government.
