A new Diploma programme for Taung Agricultural College

The Taung Agricultural College will from the academic year 2013 onwards offer a Diploma in Agriculture, specialising in Irrigation. This was said by the North West MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ms Desbo Mohono who announced that this College has just received candidacy phase accreditation from the Council of Higher Education. Mohono said this on Friday, 7 December 2012 while addressing the first group of graduates since the re-opening of this College in 2010.

“We have successfully registered the qualification of Diploma in Agriculture, specialising in Irrigation with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), and we are ready to admit new students into this Diploma programme”, Mohono said.

Substantiating the relevancy of this newly registered programme, Mohono said it is a qualification that befits the demographics of the Taung area, which practices farming largely under irrigation.

Seven (7) graduates were conferred with Diplomas in Agriculture, specialising in Mixed Farming, and one of them, Mr Tebogo Oliphant, graduated with first class. Three of these graduates are employed already.

Mohono said the Department is pleased with the quality of training offered at this College, adding that the Department releases these graduates to the nation with confidence and pride.

Offering a congratulatory message to the graduates, Dr Tio Tsilo, a Plant Scientist, encouraged them to go out and make a difference in whatever employment opportunity they will grab, calling on them to respond to challenges positively. “Rise and aim for the stars”, Dr Tsilo said.

The ceremony was attended by amongst others, Kgosi Tshepo Mankuroane of Batlhaping ba ga Phuduhuchwana, the Chairperson of the Colleges Advisory Council Prof Wilfred Legotlo, parents and government officials.
