New buses for Maluti bus service

Free State Premier, honourable Ace Magashule together with MEC for Police, Roads and Transport honourable Butana Komphela handed over eight brand new buses to Maluti Bus Service as part of taxi industry empowerment. Taxi industry own 60 percent of Maluti Bus Service through empowerment deal initiated by the Free State Provincial government.

The handover ceremony attended by more than four thousands people took place at Charles Mopeli stadium in Qwaqwa on the 17 July 2013. This hand over indicated to South Africans that the real transformation of taxi industry is no longer a cliché but has become a reality.

Taxi owners of the four taxi associations in the region, commonly known as QBTH are proud shareholders of the newly established Maluti Bus Service which provide transport to residents of Qwaqwa, Tshiame, Harrismith and Bethlehem. The four associations are represented on the board of the company by two representatives who ensure that their interests are protected at all times.

MEC Butana Komphela urged community members to take care of the buses as they use them daily and not to burn them during service delivery protests. He also urged management of Maluti bus to employ experienced drivers with proper documents to avoid unnecessary accidents.

He further stated that it was intention of the Department of Police, Roads and Transport to empower taxi operators in the province to address inequalities of the past.
