In a bid to create and promote a conducive learning environment for Aviation students at the Bhisho Airport, the Eastern Department of Transport has built a new accommodation complex.
According to departmental aviation Manager Noel Godwin, the construction has already benefited a large number of people and contributed positively in the socio-economy of the area. “It will continue benefiting the people of the area as they are expected to maintain the complex,” he said.
This complex is expected to accommodate more than 60 aviation learners, reduce unemployment challenge in that area and create enthusiasm learning environment for students explained Godwin, adding that an amount estimated to R3,5 million has been put aside for this project.
The Bhisho Airport has one of the longest and strongest runaways in South Africa and is a technically advanced airport which situated less than 10 Kilometres from King William’s Town and is close to the improved Road Network leading to all directions.
The Airport is also a stone’s throw away from the Capital of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, is close to the East London port, historic places such as the University of Fort Hare, tourist destinations such as the Wild Coast and the Amatole Mountains.
It is used as an advanced training centre by the internationally acclaimed 43 Air school. Its reputation has attracted students from all angles of the world such as Sudden, Kenya etc.
