The Ad-hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) elected Honourable Mr. Raseriti Johannes Tau as the Chairperson of the Committee in its meeting held today, 7 December 2011.
Mr Tau, who was nominated by the Chief Whip of the NCOP and Deputy President of the African National Congress Women’s League, Ms Nosipho Dorothy Ntwanambi, is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
Mr Tau has an illustrious history of political involvement in the struggle against apartheid from an early age. He was a student activist, unionist and served in various leadership positions within the ANC, the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the National Education and Health Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU).
He is the House Chairperson responsible for committees and oversight in the NCOP. He joined the NCOP in 2004 and has served in various committees of the NCOP, including as the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Public Services.
