NATJOINTS ready to police the Forum on China Africa Cooperation

The Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is scheduled to take place on 4 and 5 December 2015 at the Sandton International Convention Centre in Sandton, Gauteng, South Africa.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS), comprising of the security cluster, has been officially deployed since Saturday, 28 November 2015 to take charge of the security needs of the FOCAC.

In a bid to ensure that the deployment is executed according to plan, the NATJOINTS Chairperson, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela and a delegation of NATJOINTS role players visited the venue and surrounding areas and are satisfied with the security arrangements in place thus far.

The event will be attended by Heads of State, Ministers and business communities from China and Africa. Only accredited people will be allowed into the inner perimeter of the Sandton International Convention Centre.

Invited delegates wanting to apply for accreditation may visit either of the two accreditation centres at the Raddisson Blue Hotel at the Sandton Gautrain Station or the Ditsong National Museum of Natural History at the corner of Bosman and Visagie Streets, Pretoria.

The joint security forces that have been deployed will take care - inter alia - of border security, route security, venue security, city security, crowd management and visible policing. Strategically deployed police officers in uniform will be patrolling the streets in key areas.

In the past the NATJOINTS plans have proven to be extremely effective.  The NATJOINTS therefore decided to continue in the same trend with contingency plans put in place. Also, additional members were deployed to complement our normal day-to-day policing in this city.

In addition to the main events on the 4th and 5th December 2015, NATJOINTS also planned for the management of any parallel events, whether or not they are associated with the FOCAC event.

NATJOINTS plans are aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of crowds and traffic. In the event of planned and authorised protest actions, a dedicated speakers corner - at the corner of West and Alice Streets in Sandton - has been created. There is also limited access to the area, in that the roads around the convention centre have been reduced to one lane.

NATJOINTS is satisfied that it has taken every detail into consideration when deploying its members.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Commitee would like to thank the residents and businesses of Sandton and surrounding areas for their unwavering support and tolerance to our security deployment in this city, particularly with regards to restricted access.
