National Youth Development Agency wishes SASCO a happy 20th anniversary

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) wishes the South African Students Congress (SASCO) a happy 20th anniversary.

SASCO continues to be a symbol of hope for young people, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit for access to free and quality education. It must continue to grow in strength and character in order to further advance the interests of students in higher learning institutions including the complete transformation of the higher education sector.

As a universally recognised student movement, SASCO must therefore continue to guard against institutions of higher learning that exclude academically deserving students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Students with merit who can not afford the high university fees must be given all the support necessary including by government to ensure that they further their studies and are able to contribute to South Africa’s economy and development.

The NYDA is of a firm view that education is a primary condition can help alleviate the plight of youth underdevelopment and unemployment. As a result the NYDA will support efforts undertaken by all student movements in ensuring that more young people get access to higher education and training opportunities and that conditions are created for them to pursue and complete their studies.
