National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) ready to give career guidance and job preparedness workshops to matriculants

It is that time of the year again when the hard work put in by Grade 12 learners throughout the year is put to test. The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) takes this opportunity to wish the class of 2011 well in the upcoming final exams and to remind them of the relevant services that the NYDA has on offer for them as they prepare to join the world of work and higher education.

As the matric year comes to a wrap the NYDA would like to encourage learners to visit NYDA branches to find out about available opportunities such as Job Preparedness Workshops as well as career guidance sessions to assist them as they prepare for the world of work and further education.

“We also wish to urge educators and heads of schools to contact the NYDA to arrange for Job Preparedness Workshops and career guidance councillors from the NYDA to visit their schools to give their learners this good opportunity to prepare for their future,” says Andile Lungisa, executive chairperson of the NYDA.

Established in 2009 one of the NYDA’s duties is to initiate, design, co-ordinate, evaluate and monitor programmes aimed at integrating young people into the economy and society.

One of the key performance areas of the NYDA is Education and Skills Development. Here the organisation intends to improve the matric results, provide young people with life, technical and business skills while also helping them with career choices.

At the beginning of 2011 the NYDA gave 2039 learners an opportunity to rewrite their matric after having failed three or fewer subjects in the 2009/10 exams. This was done through the National Senior Certificate Second Chance project, a programme which the NYDA hopes to sustain through additional resources and funding.

To find out more about these workshops, and to attend career guidance sessions young people can visit any NYDA branch in their area or call 08600 YOUTH (96884) to locate the nearest NYDA office.
