National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) doors are open to all young South Africans

On Tuesday, 26 October 2010, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) met with AfriForum after they requested a meeting to discuss concerns about the composition of the Provincial Advisory Boards (PABs) and the perceived exclusion of minority groups from NYDA programmes and services.

Both organisations expressed that the meeting was extremely fruitful because AfriForum got an opportunity to express their concerns and the NYDA stressed that it has no policy which discriminates against young people because of their race. In addition, AfriForum youth will communicate with white youngsters and inform them that the NYDA is an agency that is not only directed at black youth so that they can approach the NYDA for assistance as all applications submitted by young people are subjected to the standard evaluation procedure.

The NYDA is commitment to assisting all young South Africans regardless of their race or gender and any contradictory conduct will not be tolerated. The NYDA’s doors are open to all young people, including white youth. In addition, the process of nominations and ultimately appointment of the NYDA Provincial Advisory Boards was open to all young people and youth formations.

The NYDA is currently extending its footprint so that more young people access its programmes and services, NYDA centres will be opened throughout South Africa including rural areas and areas where poor white youth reside.

The NYDA and AfriForum are looking forward to working together to ensure that all young people are skilled and can contribute towards the South African economy. Eradicating youth unemployment is an enormous task, hence it is essential that all youth structures work together and capitalise on each other’s strengths.
