National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) condemns the irresponsible behaviour of the two drag racers that killed innocent school children

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) condemns with the contempt it deserves the irresponsible behaviour displayed by rapper Molemo Maarohanye, also known as Jub Jub, who with an unidentified man crashed into seven school children killing four instantly during a silly act of drag racing; one later died in hospital. More disturbing are the revelations that the two tested positive for drug use and one for alcohol consumption.

“Continuous use of drugs and alcohol by those who ought to be role models, entertainers in particular, is a serious setback to the ongoing campaigns that seek to prevent and discourage young people from using drugs. More so as young people look up to entertainers and see them as a beacon of hope,” says NYDA Executive Chairperson Andile Lungisa. Lungisa says it is most unfortunate that the silly actions of the two robbed innocent children of their bright future.

“We can’t begin to imagine what the families of the deceased must be going through; our prayers are we them. We send our heartfelt condolences to them,” adds Lungisa.

Furthermore the NYDA calls on all road users to obey the rules of the road and importantly to always drive sober and be on the lookout for pedestrians and other road-users. As for the silly act of drag racing no amount of words can condemn it. “It is an irresponsible act of the highest order and contrary to what those who engage in it and ululate at it think, very much deplorable,” concludes Lungisa.
