National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Massmart handed over a mobile science lab to a school in KZN

Today National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Executive Chairperson Andile Lungisa and Massmart Group Executive Brian Leroni, handed over a mobile science laboratory to A.M. Moolla Secondary School in Thamafasi, Ndwendwe in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Mobile Physical Science Laboratory pilot project, a partnership initiative of the NYDA and Massmart, is aimed at assisting learners from deserving public high schools, mostly in rural areas.

The initiative provides them with a platform to perform science experiments, which they could not do previously due to lack of facilities. The mobile Physical Science laboratories are equipped with the necessary science lab apparatus needed to perform physical science experiments. The primary objective is to enhance the learning experience of learners from underprivileged schools and to ultimately improve their matric results.

After receiving the mobile science laboratory A.M. Moolla School principal Pinky Mqadi acknowledged the challenges the school has had in conducting experiments. “We are very happy as we receive this donation; our teacher and students have been struggling to carry out science experiments, as such as of today we will start using this mobile lab to carry out experiments. This is going to assist our learners and give them a whole new experience,” she said.

Lungisa says the handover could not have come at a better time, as learners in schools around the country require all the support they can get. He emphasised that the NYDA is aware of the ongoing challenges faced by many schools around the country including inadequate facilities, primarily in rural schools.

“We want to play our role and make a difference in the learning experience of learners. Furthermore, in light of the looming final matric exams, all sectors of society must come together in full force to do all they can to support our matrics as they need all the support they can get to see them through this year’s final exams,” says Lungisa.
