National Transport Movement calls for speedy investigation into Passenger Rail Agency South Africa (PRASA)

The Public Protector received a Memorandum of Demands from a group of members from the National Transport Movement (NTM) expressing dissatisfaction about the delay in the conclusion of the investigation on the Passenger Rail Agency South Africa (PRASA).

The memorandum requests:

  • “That the matters contained in the dossier submitted to the Public Protector be investigated and finalised as soon as possible.
  • That the culprits in PRASA be placed on special leave pending the conclusion of the investigations.
  • That the culprits from SAPS and the Hawks who frustrated NTM members’ case be investigated and brought to book.”

The Public Protector team led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr T Mthethwa, received the Memorandum and undertook to make all efforts to expedite the investigation with the view to conclude it around April 2013.

On the request to place people on special leave, the Public Protector team said all the institution can do is to communicate the request to the PRASA Board.

The Public Protector noted the allegations against the South African Police Services and the Hawks and said the matter will be discussed with colleagues in those institutions while waiting for evidence from the NTM.
