National School of Government and KwaZulu-Natal Legislature announce partnership to train elected public representatives and legislative employees

The National School of Government (NSG) and the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature are pleased to announced a partnership for education, training and development of elected public representatives and legislative employees.

The Speaker of the KZN Legislature, Ms Nontembeko Boyce, said the collaboration with the NSG was part of the legislature's ongoing programme of creating platforms to empower its members and employees.

Ms Boyce said the Legislature strongly believes that capacity building will enhance law-making, public participation, oversight, and impactful service delivery.

“The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature has prioritised capacity building for both elected public representatives and employees during this term. As the KZN we believe that a well-capacitated Provincial Legislature can only be realized if we build strong partnership with relevant institutions of learning, other bodies supporting parliamentary democracy as well as the broader community of KwaZulu-Natal Province,” said Hon Boyce.

Ms Boyce underscored the importance of ongoing education and professional development, highlighting that such initiatives are crucial for empowering all Members to meet the expectations of their roles and serve the public effectively. By investing in continuous learning, the Legislature aims to improve governance and better address the needs of their constituencies.

The Principal of the National School of Government (NSG) said the school was pleased about the important partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature.

“This collaboration signifies a shared commitment to strengthening governance through targeted training and development initiatives tailored to the unique challenges the provincial legislature faces. By focusing on capacity building, we are setting the stage for improved service delivery, accountability, and effective policy formulation in the province”, said Prof Ngcaweni.

The training to be provided by the NSG will focus on improving ethical leadership and ethical oversight, creating effective policies to enhance service delivery, and engaging citizens in decision-making.
