The National Sanitation Programme Manager is fired

Ms Tamie Mpotulo, the then National Sanitation Programme Manager for the Department of Human Settlements, was placed on precautionary suspension on 3 June 2011 following serious allegations of misconduct related to, inter alia, bringing the Department into disrepute by mismanaging the Rural Household Infrastructure Programme (RHIP).

Details of the charges levelled against Ms Mpotulo to dereliction of duty, prejudicing the smooth implementation of the Rural Household Infrastructure Programme, improper conduct towards senior officials of the Independent Development Trust (IDT) and prejudicing the administration and efficiency of the department.

The disciplinary hearing commenced on 3 August 2011 and concluded on 6 September 2011 with a finding of guilty on four charges and was subsequently handed a sanction of dismissal on 28 September 2011.

Minister: “The dismissal sanction is intended to send out a clear message that any form of misconduct impeding on service delivery will never be tolerated. The poor must not be taken advantage of.”
