The National Prosecuting Authority has noted the media reports about an investigation against Head of Special Investigation Unit, Mr Willie Hofmeyer and confirms receipt of the case docket from the Serious and Economic Offences Unit located within the South African Police Service (SAPS) in April 2011.
The case docket is under consideration by the prosecutors in the Director of Public Prosecutions North Gauteng office in Pretoria. The investigation relates to alleged misappropriation of funds at SIU in general and alleged flouting of supply chain and procurement procedures in awarding a tender to refurbish the SIU offices situated in Silverton.
The investigation is still underway by the police and once such investigation is completed the prosecutors will consider the matter further.
As the NPA we consider him and any other person who may be implicated in the matter to be innocent until proven guilty and will allow the law to take its course.
