National Joint Operations Centre team to assess flood damages in Johannesburg

The National Joint Operations Centre (NATJOC) team under the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) will tomorrow, 10 February, visit various areas affected by the recent natural disasters around Johannesburg to assess and verify the damage.

The assessment team will comprise of senior officials from the Departments of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, NDMC, Water Affairs, Health, South African Police Force, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), State Security, Social Development and Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre.

The NATJOC team will assess damage on public infrastructure including roads, bridges, storm water drainage, water and sewer system, electrical and environmental damage as well as private homes in the following areas:

  • Alexandra, Setshwetla
  • Ivory Park (Themba Khoza & Baghdad Informal settlement)
  • Orlando West
  • Kliptown
  • Nancefield
  • Klipspruit West
  • Freedom Charter Square
  • Protea South

Inspections will be conducted in Jukskei, Klipspruit and Kaalrivier rivers.
