The community of Naledi, Emdeni, and Tladi are requesting for an urgent overhaul of members of the South African Police Services deployed at Naledi police station. This comes after the interaction with the MEC Mazibuko during her community meeting held yesterday.
Issues raised by the community included police who take bribes from drug dealers especially Nyaope, as well as not acting decisively on Nyaope addicts who terrorises the community and are responsible for a number of house breakings, and armed robberies to feed their habits.
The community alleges that the hot spots as well as drug dealers are known but police often visit to solicit bribe rather than arresting the suspects. MEC Mazibuko appealed for community mobilisation through reporting such cases ‘I urge anyone to provide a name of a police officer involved in such, even though anonymous in order for the department to act together with the Provincial Commissioner”. said MEC Mazibuko.
To date 55 problematic shebeens have been closed down thus far, and warning provided to those who are legal but not adhering to the Liquor license requirements, such as noise pollution, selling of liquor to minors and operating outside prescribed hours.
A 10 plus project, was unveiled whereby 10 metro police will be deployed in every ward to enforce by laws, traffic enforcement and deal with crime in general in the area.
