N4 road accident claims seven lives in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC has called on increased vigilance on the part of motorists following an accident that claimed seven lives today, Friday 27 September 2013.

The accident happened when a Nissan SUV and a Mini bus collided head on near Karino on N4 Road between Nelspruit and Malelane. Seven people died instantly on the scene. Five of them were from the minibus while two were from the SUV vehicle. Seven were rushed to a nearby Hospital. The police are investigating.

MEC Shongwe has called on motorists to be more tolerant as the road deaths do not only have devastating impact on those that are left behind but accidents also have a negative impact on the state resources.He has also reiterated his call to law enforcement officers not to spare any mercy on any mischief on the road in order to save more lives.

Meanwhile the MEC has indicated that law enforcement agencies would be going all out this weekend to ensure enhancement of road safety. Traffic volumes are expected to increase due to people going in and out of the province as school holidays end.

The MEC said by punishing reckless drivers, the government will be sending strong messages to reckless drivers and this will assist in making the roads safer.
