Multi-million learnership programme for unemployed NW youth

The North West Provincial Government has allocated R23, 351 million towards  the roll- out of learnerships for unemployed youth, Premier Thandi Modise announced during the Policy Statement and Budget Speech tabled in the Provincial legislature on Thursday.

Premier Modise said that a Provincial Inter-departmental Skills Development and Training Plan for the 2012/13 financial year which will be coordinated by her office will provide for the implementation of skills development programmes such as short courses, bursaries, learnerships, internships and Adult Basic Education and Training programme.

According to Modise, fifty-one unemployed graduates from Dr. R. S. Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Molema Districts benefitted from the Breaking Barriers to Entry into the Public Service Orientation Programme (BB2E) that was implemented in the past financial. A further 51 from Bojanala Platinum Distirct and Dr.Kenneth Kaunda Districts are targeted to participate in the programme in the current financial year.
