Due to the R55 million Terminal Building upgrade currently underway at the Mthatha Airport the department would like to announce that a temporary car park zone is now in use.
As a result of the construction taking place, passengers are hereby notified that they must be at the airport at least one hour before departure as the car park has moved to a temporary area.
The current area where cars are generally parked has been closed and the temporary car park has been set-up 100m away from the terminal building.
Although a passengers air ticket does inform one to be at the airport at least one hour before departure, but because of the distance from the temporary car park to the Airport, passengers are reminded that there is now extra time needed to get from this temporary car park.
It should also be noted that there is a drop off area for passengers who get a lift to the airport, but those that leave their cars at the airport will have to walk this 100m to get to the terminal building.
This upgrade is expected to take 10 months to complete and it forms part of the airport’s upgrade project, which is in line with the province's Blue Skyway aviation strategy, which aims to improve the potential of the Bhisho and Mthatha airports, as well as to bring new life to rural airstrips within the province.
