The Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Fikile Xasa, has sworn-in Mr Kadini Joel Ngalo as a new Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) today, 7 August 2013. This follows a vacancy created by the resignation of former Member Neo Moerane, last month.
The honourable Speaker would like to congratulate and welcome the new Member in his deployment and venture of building a National Democratic Society. “We congratulate our new honourable Member, in whom we have faith and trust to immensely contribute to the advancement of the constitutional mandate of the Legislature to the best of his abilities. Mr Ngalo comes in at a crucial time as the current political leadership is wrapping up the fourth term of the Legilsature, he said.
The new Member is a member of the African National Congress. He served as the Immigration Officer and Food Supply Officer while in exile. Until recently, he served as Captain in the South African Police Service, VIP Unit in Bhisho. His vast political experience and wealth of knowledge will undoubtedly contribute positively towards fulfilling the mandate of the Legislature. We hope to tap on his experience to ensure visibility to the people on the ground.
Mr Ngalo 76, who hails from Pewuleni Location in Middledrift has vowed to give his best in the fight against poverty, unemployment and other challenges facing the Province.
The honourable Member will serve in the following Portfolio committees:
- Finance
- Human Settlements
- Economic Development and Environmental Affairs and Tourism
- Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA)
- Budget and Oversight Committee.
The newly elected Member was provided with relevant material to equip him on his new position in the Legislature. The Deputy Speaker, Bulelwa Tunyiswa and Deputy Chief Whip, Michael Peter were also in attendance.
