Learnership Programme professionalises supply chain management
The Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury hosted the graduation and celebration ceremony for forty-eight (48) practitioners who completed the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Learnership Programme on Friday (12 November 2021).
The inaugural learnership programme was attended by practitioners from eighteen (18) municipalities in the Province.
The 18-months learnership programme, offered at the NQF level 5, is a joint initiative of the National Treasury, Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury and Transport Education and Training Authority.
The MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Vusi Mkhatshwa, said the SCM learnership programme is critical to the efforts of the Provincial Government to build a resilient public procurement system in the Province.
"The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa demands that we evolve towards a supply chain management that is fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost- effective.
He said the attainment of these constitutional values is dependent on knowledgeable, skilled and competent SCM practitioners who place the interest of the whole society first.
"We expect this corp of qualified Supply Chain Management Practitioners to ensure that municipalities procure goods and services that meet quality standards, are delivered timely and cost-effectively," said MEC Mkhatshwa.
MEC Mkhatshwa expressed confidence in the programme's learning outcomes, adding that "it will help the government transit to the desired level of financial management maturity and improve our standing in the constitutional realm of a just financial administration".
