Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Vusi Shongwe receives speed camera

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison has received a donation of a speed camera from Eskom (Kusile Power Station) yesterday, 12 December 2012.

Abram Masango, the General Manager of the station said that the camera will assist in curbing road accidents caused by reckless driving and speeding at a function that took place at the Kusile Station outside Witbank (Emalahleni).

In his address, Masango said that Eskom has established a relationship long ago with government and they will continue to contribute to ensure safety in communities.

“Private companies must take a platform to assist government because safety is everyone’s business and if we work together, we can reduce road accidents and create a better environment,” said Masango.

MEC Vusi Shongwe thanked Eskom, saying the department has received an early Christmas present that will make the work of traffic officers easier this festive season.

“Partnerships are very important because government cannot succeed on its own without the assistance of stakeholders. This contribution will beef up on our operational plan and we shall win the battle against unnecessary accidents, in particular those caused by speedsters,” said Shongwe.

The MEC urged motorists and passengers to use the road responsibly and not to disregard road safety hints and regulations as this contribute to unnecessary fatalities and injury to innocent people. Our Festive Season operations have already started and officials of the department led by Head of Department Thulani Sibuyi will be deployed across the province to ensure safety on the roads and compliance to the National Road Traffic Act.
