Mpumalanga Finance won SAIGA award

Mpumalanga Department of Finance has once again comes tops in the South African awards for excellence in reporting and accounting in the public service.

The Department of Finance has been honoured with yet another South African Institute for Government Auditors (SAIGA) annual public sector reporting award, its fifth accolade since the inception of the awards in 2002.

The 2011 SAIGA award was given to the department in recognition of the highest standard of reporting and accounting on financial statement and performance in the Mpumalanga Province.

The adjudication results of the 2011 awards shows that the department maintained its position as the best reporting and accounting department in the province and also the top provincial treasury amongst the nine provinces in the country.

MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa said the award signifies the ability, motivation and commitment of the staff and management of the department to lead Operation Clean Audit in the province.

“This award will encourage us to work harder, better and smatter in pursuit of the 2014 goal of clean audit status in the province.

“I am very proud of the contribution of each and everyone in ensuring that the department maintains the position of excellence in the province. 

“We must all be proud about the record improvement in our overall accountability and transparency ratings compared to the previous year (2010) during which we won the overall national award, said MEC Pinky Phosa.

The Executive President of the South African Institute of Government Auditors, Dieter Gloeck, congratulated the department for its commitment to effective and accountable reporting through the annual reports.
