Mpumalanga DoL shines at the Service Delivery and Youth Premier's Excellence Awards

The Department of Labour (DoL) in Mpumalanga won a silver trophy and a cheque of R15 000.00 in the Batho-Pele Category at the Premier’s Awards recently.

The Premier’s Awards support the pursuit of excellent standards of achievement as well as organisational and departmental service delivery. Furthermore, the awards focus on rewarding, acknowledging, recognising exquisite performance and innovation among the public servants and the youth in the province.

The Premier of Mpumalanga Mr David Mabuza, and other political bigwigs, graced the prestigious event.

The Roving Safety Representatives (RSR) from the Inspection and Enforcement Service (IES) Business Unit had been nominated for the Premier’s Award in recognition of their efficient performance in the agriculture sector.

The criterion included, inter alia, the potential massive positive impact a said project could have for the province. Typically, RSR is a Private Public Partnership initiatives geared towards addressing issues of health and safety in the Agricultural sector.

Mpumalanga has Agriculture as one of its biggest employer. To date, a number of farmworkers and employers have reaped the benefits of RSR. Not only has awareness levels around OHS gone up, there is increases ownership of ensuring that workplaces are safe and healthy.

In spite of stiff competition, the DoL walked away with an enviable silver trophy and the prize money of R15 000.00. The unprecedented achievement is undoubtedly the pride of the Provincial staff and particularly the Chief-Director, Ms Aggy Moiloa who smiled from ear-to-ear when the MC announced the news.

“At that very instance, it suddenly struck me just how celebrities feel when they are announced as winners. For a fraction of a second, I was hyperventilating. The size of my eyes would have turned any owl green with envy. Yesss! We did it, I greened,” said Ms Moiloa.

In his key note address the Premier Mabuza mentioned that departments such as DoL are the pride of Mpumalanga because of the efficient service delivery which they render to the public.
