Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison urges motorists to be more cautious on the roads due to bad weather condition

Mpumalanga department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison urges motorists to be more cautious and patient when driving as the wet weather condition may lead to more accidents.

This comes after an accident involving two sedans, one light duty vehicle (LDV) and a truck left five people dead, one seriously injured and two slightly injured.

The accident occurred in Belfast, 2 km from the Engen garage towards Middelburg yesterday (23 April 2012) in the evening. Preliminary investigations show that one sedan travelling towards Middelburg lost control and swerved on to the truck that was travelling on the opposite direction.

The truck blocked the road and lead to the other two vehicles [sedan and LDV] colliding with it.

MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

He says drivers must inspect their vehicles before undertaking trips and should at all times concentrate when driving.

“We are appealing to motorists to be more vigilant in these weather conditions to avoid unnecessary accidents,” said the MEC.
