Mpumalanga Community Safety Head of Department (HOD), Mr Thulani Sibuyi calls for security bosses to prevent violent strikes

In a recent meeting between Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison and Security companies, Head of Department Mr Thulani Sibuyi called on the security bosses to ensure their employees do not embark on violent strikes.

The meeting that was held in Malelane on 15 February 2013 between the department and security companies takes place every three months to discuss challenges faced by contractors on sites. He said that previous experiences saw security officers damaging public properties and sometimes even preventing service delivery from taking place.

“Everyone has the right to strike but it becomes crime when strikers start to damage properties. We cannot allow such tendencies, hence we need security bosses to prevent such incidences,” said Sibuyi.

He said that there was a need to put up a clause in the Service Level Agreement that will control strikes on sites. The security bosses thanked the HOD for the improvement in payments as compared to previous years.

Some of these security companies who did not want to be mentioned out of gratitude donated back to the community with houses and bursaries to disadvantaged learners. Sibuyi thanked them and pledged that they continue assisting government to reach the goal of delivering better services to the community.
