Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Ms Sibongile Manana has expressed shock at the senseless killing of Mr Sammy Mpatlanyane this morning Friday, 8 January 2010.
Manana, while condemning this barbaric act of cowardice, is calling on the police to ensure that they bring the culprits to book so that they could face the full extent of the law. She has also called on anyone with information that could assist the police in their investigations to come forward.
Mpatlanyane died from bullet wounds sustained while being shot at this morning at his house in Stonehenge in Nelspruit.
Mpatlanyane was a Head of Communications for the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation.
Meanwhile, Manana sends her condolences to the Mpatlanyane family, friends and his colleagues in the provincial government.
She said his death came at a time when the province is preparing for the FIFA 2010 World Cup and his communication skills will be missed especially as he has been instrumental in ensuring that awareness among the people is generated about the forthcoming soccer spectacle in their province.
