Movement of vehicles and troops participating in Exercise Golfinho

The public are advised that there will be an increased presence of military vehicles and troops on the national roads of the Republic of South Africa, as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries participating in Exercise Golfinho make their way to the South African Army Combat Training Centre at Lohatla, in the Northern Cape province.

South Africa is hosting the SADC Peace Support Operation Field Training Exercise, to be held at the South African Army Combat Training Centre over the period 1 to 26 September 2009.

The exercise is a peace support operation conducted by SADC member states. Its aim is to ensure the force's operational readiness in accordance with the African Union Standby Force's roadmap. South Africa is hosting the field training component of the exercise in the Northern Cape province at the South Africa Army Combat Training Centre.

The exercise is a demonstration of South Africa's commitment to participation in regional peace support training and hopes to achieve improved regional co-operation in the field of peace support operations.

Forces from the following SADC countries are attending:
* Angola
* Botswana
* Democratic Republic of Congo
* Lesotho
* Malawi
* Mozambique
* Namibia
* South Africa
* Swaziland
* Tanzania
* Zambia
* Zimbabwe

There will therefore be an increased presence of foreign military vehicles and soldiers en route to Lohatlha from Upington Airport and the following border posts:
* Ramatlabama
* Beit Bridge
* Ariamsvlei
* Lebombo
* Maseru
* Mahamba
