The Groot Marico Bridge on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway between Swartruggens and Zeerust was reportedly flooding due to heavy rains experienced in the Groot Marico area in the North West Province on Sunday afternoon.
Though no incidents of casualties were reported, North West Provincial Traffic Management authorities appeal to motorists to observe safe following distances, drive with caution as they approach the bridge and other flooding areas to avoid being swept by water.
Authorities warned that when the side of the body of a vehicle makes contact with the water the force increases rapidly and the water also acts on the underside of the vehicle as well and may sweep away passing vehicles.
